What's the next big thing in AUV (autonomous underwater vehicles) technology? The next big thing in AUV technology is the New Solar Underwater Robot Technology. What's cool about this new technology? Well it's an autonomous robotic sub or AUV that [get this] has solar panels! Like, you don't have to remove the sub from the water and remove the batteries and charge the batteries and insert the batteries back into it and then put it back in the water because it's solar! There's even a new acronym created for it: SAUV, which stands for Solar-powered Autonomous Underwater Vehicle. It is the first of its kind and it aids in underwater monitoring efforts. The SAUV weighs 370 pounds, travels at speeds of up to 2 miles per hour, and is designed to dive to depths of 500 meters. The SAUVs communicate and network with one another in real time to assess a water body as a whole in measuring how it changes over space and time.
